April Showers
Not only did it rain this April; baby, it poured. This has easily been the busiest month of my career in years (low bar, I know). Counting this upcoming week, I’ll have played eight gigs in April. I’m truly grateful for all the music I’ve been privileged to play over the last few weeks. It’s been an awesome experience reconnecting and performing with musicians I hadn’t performed with in over two years, like this past Thursday when I played with Dan Howard’s DANDARDS quartet. It was a blast playing with Dan again as well as Nick Bracewell and Brent Mah, all of whom destroyed that night. Check out this video from Thursday night.
But it’s been just as rewarding being able to play for the first time with a handful of amazing musicians as well. At my Pat’s Pub show on April 10th, I got to play for the first time with Quincy Mayes, a fantastic young pianist in town with whom I’d been trying to play for a long time (short video here, thanks Sharon). And just this past weekend, I did a fun night of 80’s power ballads adapted for vocal jazz trio with Andrea Superstein and Milo Johnson, again a first time collaboration with them. Just as well, this upcoming week will be a relatively new connection for me.
JANCIS ft. Chris Fraser & Dan Howard
Friday April 29th 8:30-11 pm // Cheesecake Etc.
I met Jancis briefly when he subbed in with the VCC Bigger Band in November, but we haven’t played together since. He’s a great player, so I’m delighted that we’ll be able to get a chance to play in a more intimate setting (event link). And of course it’ll be a treat to play with Dan again. Check out Jancis’ music here.
