Look, I hate to say it, but I am generally doing this kind of promotion stuff on instagram first. I have more eyeballs there than anywhere else.
Anyway, starting with this weekend:
Milo is a fantastic bassist and composer from Washington D.C. This group has been rehearsing this set of music for several months now. Milo’s tunes range anywhere between old school NOLA style collective improvisation, to driving “messengers” type swing, to romantic third-stream through-composed pieces. Consisting of two horns and three string instruments, the music is very grounded and chamber-y, but still lots of fun. Tickets are going fast but you can still get some at this link.
Personnel:
Milo Walker Johnson - Bass
Chris Fraser - Guitar
Llowyn Davis - Violin
Feven Kidane - Trumpet
John Nicholson - Saxophone
Then this Sunday:
This is my “new” quartet. I call it “new” not so much that it is a unique and novel permutation of musicians, which I suppose it is. But the real novel thing about this group is that we are only going to play my original compositions. This is a first for me. I’ve featured one or two of my tunes at a time on gigs like this in the past, but I think I’m truly “coming out” this time as a composer, which is exciting and a little bit terrifying. We rehearsed on Thursday (including a tune I wrote on Wednesday night) and the material is sounding strong. I hope to see you there! You can reserve seats at Frankie’s by clicking this link..
Personnel:
Chris Fraser - Guitar
John Nicholson - Saxophone
David Caballero - Bass
